In My Ears: Songs of the Summer

We have a favorite podcast, Too Beautiful to Live, or TBTL.  We've been hooked on the show since Aidan was an infant.  They were a radio show in Seattle, now they're imaginary radio.  Every summer they hold a "Song of the Summer" contest.  I am perpetually UN-cool about music.  I listen to NPR, TBTL and Simple Mom podcasts, hardly any music radio.  (And the radio in Indy is not exactly cutting edge either.  Enough with the Bonnie Raitt and Stevie Ray Vaughn WTTS)

I have been enjoying TBTLs list of songs for this summer.  Brandon is great about music and can pick out what I will like better than I can.  Here's some songs I've been loving this summer.  I've linked them all to the YouTube video so you can listen too!

Hey Ho by the Lumineers
Hallways by Islands
40 Day Dream by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Sixteen saltines by Jack White  Love me some Jack White.  I like to think that it's more than the Michigan connection, but I really couldn't tell you much more about him, so that must be it.
We are Young by Fun  (My vote for THE Song of the Summer)
The Summer by Coconut Records  I just saw that this is from Jason Schwartzman - I always enjoy him. No wonder I like it!
Bright Whites by Kishi Bashi
Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men

Aidan's song of the summer has been The Heinrich Maneuver by Interpol.  It's HIL.AR.IOUS.  He just keeps singing over and over "How are things on the West Coast?!  Doin' real fiiiinne, gotta shoe....(make up words)."

I'm surprised that I don't like the Alabama Shakes song, Hold On.  I can't pin point why I'm not crazy about it, maybe it's too repetitive?

  1. I literally cannot name a single current song. Like you, I tend to listen to NPR or stuff on my iPod. All of these songs? Never heard of 'em. I am not cool.
